apéritif [apeʀitif] RZ. r.m.
- In France, people are not invited over for tea, but for an apéritif. The adults usually drink Pastis, Whisky, Martini or punch and the children have soft drinks such as cordials (mint, strawberry, grenadine etc.), cola or lemonade. Snacks such as crackers, crisps, cheese, pâté or olives are served as well. Guests understand that they are not invited to dinner.
